1.DOWNBEAT Feb 1961 LORD BUCKLEY BENEFIT SHOW review 14.88
DESCRIPTION: LORD BUCKLEY never got a lot of press coverage during his life. What he did get was either in his own HIP magazine, or in the various "girlie" magazines that flooded the market in the Fifties. This 1961 issue of Downbeat features a review of the benefit concert to pay for the burial of Lord Buckley shortly after his death in New York City. The concert featured Gigi Gryce, The Jazztet, Art Farmer, Benny Golson, Cedar Walton, Orson Bean, Larry Storch, Dizzy Gillespie and Ornette Coleman! I am sorry to report that the reviewer esteemed Jazz critic Ira Gitler was wearing his cranky pants that night and had a thoroughly awful time. Too bad for him, I am sure the rest of the packed house had a swinging time! This item is in very good condition. The magazine is complete, intact, tightly bound and in Very Good condition! It shows some wear.
